How to Extend a Marriage Contract - Chapter 12
How to Extend a Marriage Contract - Chapter 12
“What should we do, Emily? You were the only aristocrat at this school who failed the accounting exam?”
Georgia's voice echoes through the dining room. The noisy dining room became quiet in an instant, and the eyes of the students turned to Georgia and Emily.
The two had uncommon blonde hair and blue eyes, and they were the rare aristocratic girls at the school, so they stood out even if they didn't try. The students in the dining room chattered, looking at Emily and Georgia in turn.
Emily felt her face tingle and forcibly raised the corners of her lips and smiled. In the first place, among the nobles attending this school, the only people taking accounting classes are me and you! Also, you saw that I signed up for the accounting course and you followed me in!
Of course, Emily herself had nothing to say about failing the course she signed up for. But what about it? After listening in class, it wasn’t as fun as she thought.
Emily would miss accounting classes, and she would often go out with Rebecca to the downtown area. On the day of the exam, the accounting teacher asked, “Lady Lampard, did you sign up for this class?” She could still vividly remember Georgia sitting next to her laughing exaggeratedly.
However, Emily was not one to sit still and tremble even after being insulted like that. She smiled as naturally as she could.
“What should we do, Lady Mason? Lady Mason the only aristocrat in this school to have such a loud voice?”
The face of Georgia, who she usually boasted that she was an aristocrat, was dyed red. And Rebecca, who had been concentrating on eating the carbonara as if she had no interest in the commotion, spit out the food in her mouth with a popping sound.
"So… so crude.... it makes sense that similar things flock together.”
Georgia looked disgusted and turned around, almost running away. The dining hall, which had been quiet for a moment, soon became noisy as if nothing had happened. Emily ate with her friends, smiling and carefree.
As it was later discovered, Georgia was resentful towards Emily, whom she already disliked, because Duchess Wade chose Emily to chaperon instead of her at the débutante, which took place three years after entering school.
It was simply unfair to Emily. She never asked the principal to do such a thing, and she just shuddered at her débutante!
In any case, Emily had been bullied by Georgia ever since. But Emily was also formidable, so Georgia's bullying was nothing short of pathetic.
'Although I was really annoyed when she spread rumors in the social world that I was a flirt and a player....'
The first time Emily saw Kyle was around that time. 18 years old, on the day of the school hunting contest. Emily, who was confident in riding a horse, but couldn’t hunt, had to assist others and that was Georgia.
“I don’t want to be with her! I'm anxious! What if she shoots me with a bow?”
“If I could have shot you, I would have shot you sooner.”
“See, I told you!”
Georgia only shut up when she heard that cooperative scores were also a big part of the hunting competition. As soon as the shots rang to mark the start of the competition, the two glared at each other and headed for the northern forest.
The Northern Forest was dark even in the middle of the day because it was densely populated with tall, leafy trees. Not only that, but there were also a lot of fairly large animals. However, the students of this school, who were not good at hunting on horseback, did not regularly enter the northern forest.
The fearless Emily and the fiercely competitive Georgia were on the same page for once. Emily decided to go to the North Forest because she wanted to see big animals that weren’t in other forests, and Georgia wanted to hunt cool animals that other students wouldn't even dare to catch. However, Emily and Georgia, who entered the Northern Forest with curiosity, were chased by a bear exactly 30 minutes later.
“Ahhh! No!"
"Georgia! If you scream like that, other beasts will come!”
Emily was worried and gave her advice, but Georgia was terrified by the words and began to scream even louder.
“Ahhhhhhhh!”
“This bitch…!”
Whether the bear was full and not hungry, or whether Emily and Georgia's horses ran fast enough, they were luckily able to get away from the bear quickly. However, the two immediately ran into a second hurdle.
“Neigh…!”
"Georgia! Calm him down!"
“If this were you, would you be able to?”
Georgia's horse was so startled that it started running at an incredibly fast pace without stopping. Georgia didn't even try to stop him. She was just clinging to the horse's back to avoid falling off the horse.
She was close to it. She was honestly on the verge of falling. Emily clenched her teeth as she looked at the pitiful figure.
'I've never gotten on the back of a horse while it is running but....'
Was it possible to jump between horses running side by side, and even get on top of an excited horse that was running at great speed?
But there was no other way. The dense trees began to become gradually sparse. There was a cliff at the end of the northern forest. And Emily expected them to reach the cliff in no time. She swallowed her still saliva and opened her mouth.
"Hey! I'll go to you, so stay still!"
"Huh? What….”
“Just stay down calmly!”
Just as Emily was about to grab Georgia's horse by the reins, someone shouted from behind. They seemed to want to stop her recklessness, but it was too late. Emily felt her own body moving by itself.
"Ack!"
She settled down on the back of the horse with a thumping shock. Emily only then identified the person who followed.
He was a wonderfully handsome man with black hair and black eyes. Wearing armor and riding a horse, it seemed that he was one of the knights sent by Duchess Wade for the safety of the students.
Normally, she would have squeaked and stare at him to remember him for a long time, but at that moment, she was not in the mood for that. Besides, that man also seemed to be very angry with her.
“Are you crazy?”
“There was no other method!”
“Are you talking about the method to commit suicide? Thanks to you, the beasts here will prey on you!”
“Be quiet! The horse was in a state of excitement!”
At those words, the man closed his mouth shut. And as Emily pulled the reins with all her might, her horse's speed slowed.
She couldn’t believe she succeeded in one attempt! She didn’t expect her actions to be so successful. Not only did she dismount from one horse to another, wasn’t she a horse-riding genius? A blush formed on Emily's face as she discovered a new talent.
Thanks to herself, she survived. In the distance, she could can see the expansive cliff.
Emily relaxed and felt the energy draining from her body. As Emily breathed a sigh of relief, the horse slowly bowed its body and sat down. And it soon drooped it’s neck. Emily opened her eyes and studied the horse. The horse's eyes twitched and then closed slowly.
"Huh?"
“It’s magic that puts you to sleep.”
As the man said, Georgia's horse was snoring before she knew it. The horse looked so gentle that it was hard to believe that it had been so excited a while ago that it wouldn’t stop. She couldn’t believe that there was so an easy way….
Wait, so if she had waited a little longer, she wouldn’t have had to risk her life to do this? She came to her senses. Emily's mouth slowly opened.
"Ha… ha ha ha....”
A dejected laugh escaped from the exhausted Emily's mouth. Georgia, who had regained consciousness at the sound, quickly organized her messy hair and sprang up from her spot.
“Sir Kyle! Thanks for saving me! You are my lifesaver!”
“Are there any injuries?”
“No, thanks to you!”
"That’s fortunate."
Kyle's eyes turned to Emily, who crept up from behind Georgia. His eyes that were looking at her were quite different from those looking at Georgia. Should she say that it was sharper? Even if he didn’t smile, the person who was kind to Georgia hardened when he saw her.
Even though she acted a bit risky, there was no reason to act like that. She wasn't playing around, she had been trying to save someone's life, and she was surprised too. Embarrassed, Emily nodded to Kyle as she approached her horse, who had been chasing her.
Georgia rode back on Kyle's horse. While also badmouthing Emily.
“Young lady Emily is still a little… young. Please understand."
“…….”
Emily desperately wanted to punch Georgia, who was good at gossiping without even removing the tear marks around her eyes. Thanks to this, the appearance of a handsome knight was not noticeable. Kyle, who glared at her whenever he has a chance, had just become as annoying as Georgia.
Since then, Georgia talked about Kyle Wade every day.
“I have to go quickly. Today, I am having tea with Sir Kyle.”
“This necklace was bought by Sir Kyle. Doesn’t it match me really well?"
“Isn’t it a bit odd to get engaged while I’m attending school?”
When Georgia left school, she acted as if she was going to marry Kyle immediately, so Emily had no interest in a Kyle. Until after the contract marriage with Kyle was confirmed, she had completely forgotten about Kyle until she heard from Rebecca's mouth about the scandals between Georgia and Kyle when she was a student.
