How to Extend a Marriage Contract - Chapter 16
How to Extend a Marriage Contract - Chapter 16
Seeing the devastated Emily, Georgia raised her head proudly.
“Kyle, you haven’t stopped by these days, so I was worried about you.”
“Is there any reason why I should go to Lady Mason?”
Kyle's voice was cold. He didn't even look at Georgia. His gaze was still nailed to Emily. Emily, stabbed with his gaze, cowered her shoulders.
Georgia glanced at Emily who was like that, lowered her eyebrows, and spoke in a sad voice.
“I’m sorry for coming here so suddenly. But I couldn't help it. I explained it all to Emily.”
Efforts to get Kyle's attention were successful. He looked pretty annoyed, though.
Kyle asked objectively.
“What is going on?”
Georgia answered quickly. She had no time to pretend to be pitiful because he looked like he was about to kick her out.
“Kyle, I have your child.”
Emily turned her head away from Kyle. She had no confidence to look at him.
Kyle didn't say anything. Instead of the silent couple, Georgia opened his mouth.
“After subjugating monsters, you always stopped by me first. I was going to tell you when you came, but no matter how long I waited, you didn't come, so I....”
“Are you saying that I had an affair with you?”
Kyle's voice coldly cut through Georgia's words. Emily’s shoulders shrank. Soon, she will be treated like that by him.
“Kyle! Are you pretending not to know?”
“I have never done anything like that. Take your nonsense home.”
“How can you do this? You really feel like a different person....”
“I don’t think Lady Mason and I know each other well.”
“When you came back from this subjugation, you were planning to divorce Emily and marry me!”
That’s what happened. Emily closed her eyes tightly. But she couldn't stop seeing Wade's seal on the sealed letter.
“When exactly did I say that?”
Kyle's voice was terribly cold, but Georgia's answer was relentless.
“The day before the subjugation, at the party held at Count Mason’s mansion.”
Emily clenched her dress. Emily was also present at the party.
You mean you two had a secret meeting while I was right next to you? Emily's hand holding the dress trembled.
“I never spoke to Lady Mason that day.”
“You don't remember? Think carefully. When your wife was talking to Marchioness Collins, I called you aside….”
Georgia's words sounded like magic that brought back Kyle's memories. It was getting hard for Emily to breathe. She was upset. She felt like she was about to vomit right away.
Then she heard Kyle's voice.
“I was in the garden at the time with Sir Watson.”
Emily's eyes widened at the unexpected words. Her head turned to Kyle and Georgia.
"What?"
Georgia also seemed to be perplexed by his assertion. Her voice trembled a little.
"But… But you really….”
“I went back to my wife as soon as I saw Marchioness Collins out on the terrace.”
Emily stared intently at Georgia who was trying to smile. Georgia was obviously panicking. She stuttered and barely continued her words.
"I… I must have been mistaken.... Emily... When your wife was with Countess Tefner....”
“The Countess Tefner did not come that day. The Count came alone.”
"Ah…, then… that….”
“Lady Mason.”
Georgia's mouth shut tightly at the low voice. Kyle continued speaking slowly and clearly. His words sounded like a warning.
“I was with my wife almost all day. Because I was worried that she would drink her wine too quickly that day.”
Emily inhaled and exhaled her breath. That was certainly the case that day. When Kyle came from defeating the monsters, she thought that he would demand a divorce right away, so she impulsively continued to drink alcohol, which she couldn't even drink well.
But it seemed that Emily wasn't the only one who was shocked. Kyle coldly glared at Georgia who had her mouth wide open in surprise.
“You lied to my wife when I was away. I will not let this go easily.”
“… ah…, that… that is….”
Georgia's face turned red. She opened her mouth, but in the end didn't say anything. Contrary to the fact that he entered the drawing room with great vigor, he had to run out in a shabby manner.
Emily opened her eyes and looked at Kyle. He glanced at her door through which Georgia had left, then turned towards Emily, clicking his tongue. And he gently stroked her cheek again.
“Did you believe in those kind of words?”
The cold attitude was gone. But that wasn’t the problem. Emily's mouth opened slowly.
“Kyle…, you remember that party...?”
“…….”
Kyle's hand that touched her cheek trembled greatly. Emily didn't miss the moment of embarrassment that crossed Kyle's face.
“How could you remember it?”
“Emily.”
Emily jumped up from the sofa. Kyle looked perplexed as she stepped back. He didn’t look like someone who would interrogate Emily.
Thanks to this, Emily had to realize that his memory would have returned a long time ago. A hoarse voice came from her throat.
“Kyle…. You found your memory.”
“Emily, I….”
Emily's face was as red as Georgia's a moment ago. And she also rushed to the drawing room door. A trembling voice filled the drawing room.
“I’m, I’m sorry, Kyle! Please forget everything I did!”
“Emily! Wait a minute...!”
Kyle immediately followed her. And just before he nearly caught her, Emily screamed desperately at him.
“Please do not follow me! I want to be alone!”
At those words, Kyle's hand outstretched toward Emily stood still in the air. Kyle stood there, staring blankly at Emily's back as she ran down the hallway.
