Jack began to talk carefully to the monster, who was munching on something to eat while observing him.

“I need some mushrooms from the mountain on the opposite of us.” 

“The mountain opposite?” 

“Yes. The mountain across the village, near the lake. I heard that they only grow there.” 

“There might be some near this mountain. Tell me.” 

“They only grow in wet places, so I don’t think there are any.” 

Jack shrugged and described the mushrooms. The monster’s expression gradually sank as he listened to the description. They really were something he had never seen near the monster’s mountain. 

“Have you saved any in the village?” 

Miela interjected. 

“There probably aren’t any left because the harvest wasn’t great last season. There should be new ones by now, but it’s still bear season, so I can’t go.”

“Where are they?”

He had never left the forest for a whole day. He was worried about leaving Miela alone in the castle.

The monster nodded halfheartedly to Miela. However, his heart was already running towards the lake.

After the meal, the monster found Jack packing up his things in the kitchen.
